2 Background and current work

I trained in general-comparative and Slavic linguistics, completing an MA at Kiel University in 2006 with a thesis on Russian action nominal constructions, focussing on the realization of arguments in these constructions and argument structure inheritance.

Since November 2006 I have been a PhD student on the VolkswagenStiftung-funded DoBeS project "Documentation of Vures and Vera'a, the two surviving endangered languages of Vanua Lava, Vanuatu", focussing on the documentation and grammatical description of the Vera'a language. In my PhD thesis I examine how and to what extent animacy and referentiality (the 'Referential Hierarchy') is reflected in various parts of the grammar of this language (working title: "Animacy and Referentiality in Vera'a, an Oceanic language of Northern Vanuatu").

Since April 2010 I have been working as a half-time lecturer at the Department of General and Comparative Linguistics of Kiel University and will complete my PhD thesis in the very near future.
